On July 30th 2013 Russell and Graham Henry departed Belem, Brazil headed Northeast to Florida, USA via kayak.
We will paddle through the countries of Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St Martin, Sint Maarten, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, American Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos Islands, The Bahamas, and the USA.
First paddling out of the Amazon and then up the South American coast, leg #1 of the trip will cover 2600km and be almost exclusively coastline paddling in an isolated and remote part of the world. Once arriving in Trinidad, leg #2 will take us across the Caribbean Ocean to Florida. This involves island hopping our way to the North and then the Northwest. We will face many long exposed crossings, 4 of which are 100km+, as well as a rapidly changing landscape of culture and custom.
6500 km is not to be taken lightly. But with solid preparation, dogged determination, and some healthy brotherly competition we feel confident in our ability to complete this voyage.
We are now underway and plan on reaching Trinidad by mid October and then Florida by March next year!
