Growing up in Victoria BC, Russell (21) and Graham (22) have been partners in crime since their earliest days of exploration. Motivated and ambitious young men, Russell and Graham are often backcountry skiing, trekking, canoeing, and climbing. However, raised by prominent members of the kayak community they have been kayaking as long as they can remember and this is where their true abilities lie.
Russell has, since a young age, been getting himself and others outdoors. In high school he started an outdoors club for students and ran trips for friends throughout the year. After graduation he worked at YMCA Camp Thunderbird in Sooke BC getting kids into the woods on kayak, canoe and hiking trips. Two years ago he attended Thompson Rivers University where he received his Adventure Sport Certificate. After working as a sea kayak guide in Newfoundland last summer, he then cycled 1300 kms to Halifax and worked the Fall season at YMCA Camp Big Cove in Nova Scotia. He then lived and worked at Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Pro Patrol this season.
Graham has spent 4 summers working at Camp Thunderbird as a counsellor, out-trip leader, and most recently a level 2 sea kayak guide. Certified by the Sea Kayak Guide Alliance of BC, this summer consisted of 5 day trips for 12-14 year olds and 14 day trips for 15-17 year old leadership development campers. He recently graduated from the University of British Columbia Okanagan as a Psychology major and upon completing this trip hopes to go back to school with aspirations for a career in Environmental Law.
